The countdown is on for one of Victoria's most anticipated recreational fishing events, with the Twin Rivers Bream Classic returning from 17–19 July for another exciting weekend of competition, community and family fun.
Supported once again by the East Gippsland Shire Council, the annual catch-and-release tournament will attract anglers from across Victoria and interstate to test their skills on the region's renowned waterways while showcasing East Gippsland as one of Australia's premier fishing destinations.
This year's event boasts an outstanding prize pool, headlined by a major prize boat, along with Hobie kayaks, premium fishing gear, accommodation vouchers and a lucky draw prize table featuring more than 20 fantastic prizes.
A draw card of this year’s event is the return of fishing icon, Merv Hughes, who will be at each of the social events and around the region over the weekend.
Importantly, the Twin Rivers Bream Classic continues its commitment to encouraging the next generation of anglers, with every junior competitor guaranteed to receive a prize, ensuring young participants are rewarded simply for taking part.
East Gippsland Shire Council Mayor Cr Jodie Ashworth said events like the Twin Rivers Bream Classic played an important role in supporting the region's economy while showcasing everything East Gippsland has to offer.
"This event is a wonderful example of how sporting and recreational events bring significant benefits to our communities, The event attracts hundreds of competitors, their families and supporters at a quieter time of year, providing an important boost for local accommodation providers, cafes, restaurants, retailers and tourism operators across the region."
Cr Ashworth said the tournament also highlighted one of East Gippsland's#86C6E5 greatest natural assets.
"The Gippsland Lakes are recognised as one of Australia's premier recreational fishing destinations, and events like this help showcase these incredible waterways to visitors from across the country."
"Many people discover East Gippsland for the first time through events like the Twin Rivers Bream Classic and return time and again to experience everything our region has to offer. It's a fantastic reminder that East Gippsland is a world-class holiday destination in every season."
Tournament organisers say the Twin Rivers Bream Classic has become much more than a fishing competition.
"Each year we see anglers, families and visitors come together to enjoy our incredible waterways while supporting local businesses and communities. The continued support of East Gippsland Shire Council allows us to deliver an event that benefits both competitors and the wider region."
The program will see registrations take place Friday morning, an event hosted by the Swan Reach Hotel on the Friday evening, a dinner and live music event hosted by the Nicholson Hotel on the Saturday evening and the major draw at the Nicholson Hotel in the car park on the Sunday.
The tournament follows a catch-and-release format, promoting sustainable fishing practices while allowing competitors to experience some of Australia's finest black bream fishing.
With exceptional fishing, a welcoming atmosphere and one of the most generous prize pools on offer, organisers are encouraging anglers of all experience levels to enter and be part of another memorable Twin Rivers Bream Classic.
